Cognitive assessments and learning assessments are also referred to as IQ Tests and Psychoeducational Assessments, respectively. They help you understand the reasons behind your child’s learning or behaviour and clarify their learning needs, cognitive strengths, and areas of challenge. Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis for an intellectual or learning disability, school support, or simply want clarity around how your child learns — I provide clear answers and practical recommendations to support your child’s development at home, at school, and beyond. My goal is always to empower families with insight and practical support.

Experienced professional
With a decade of experience as a clinical psychologist, I have had the privilege of supporting children, adolescents, and their families across a range of settings — including public mental health services, the Department for Education, and private practice. I bring extensive knowledge of child development and learning, to every assessment, along with a calm, compassionate and neurodiverse-affirming approach that helps children feel at ease.
What Is a Psychoeducational Assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is an in-depth evaluation that looks at how a child or adolescent thinks, learns, and solves problems. It typically includes:
Cognitive testing (e.g., WISC-V or WPPSI-IV)
Academic achievement testing (e.g., WIAT-III)
Parent and teacher questionnaires
Social-emotional and behavioural screening (when needed)
This type of assessment can help identify:
Intellectual disabilities
Learning disorders (like dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia)
Giftedness
Discrepancies in areas of cognitive ability impacting learning
Memory or processing challenges
What Is an Intellectual Disability Assessment?
If you’re concerned that your child may have an intellectual disability, a formal diagnostic assessment will clarify this. A report will be necessary to access supports and sometimes funding. I provide a structured and compassionate assessment process aligned with DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria.
An intellectual disability diagnosis requires:
General intellectual functioning at IQ 70 or below
Significant challenges in adaptive functioning (daily living, social and practical skills)
Onset during developmental years.
I assess these areas through a combination of:
Standardised tests (e.g., WISC-V or WPPSI-IV and Vineland-3)
Parent and teacher questionnaires
Observations and clinical interviews
A formal diagnosis can help access:
NDIS support
School accommodations
Tailored interventions and therapies
